China vows to improve safety of new energy vehicles in 2021

China’s energy-saving and new energy vehicle industry development inter-ministerial joint meeting was held in Beijing on January 19, 2021, the convener of the joint meeting, Minister of the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology Xiao Yaqing presided over the meeting and made a speech.

The meeting summarized the work of 2020 and the “Thirteenth Five-Year Plan”, discussed in depth the implementation of the “New Energy Vehicle Industry Development Plan (2021-2035)” (hereinafter referred to as “the Plan”) work initiatives, and clarified the key work of the development of new energy vehicle industry in 2021.

The meeting stressed that the development of new energy vehicles is a major strategic decision made by the Party Central Committee and the State Council, and pointed out that 2021 is the opening year of the “Fourteenth Five-Year Plan”, is also the year of the start of the “Plan”, to focus on four tasks.

First, enhance the supply chain of the industry chain independent and controllable capacity, the overall promotion of the “shortboards” and forging the “longboards”, to enhance the resilience and competitiveness of the industry chain.

The second is to improve the infrastructure system, resolve the hardship of “putting charging piles into communities” and other issues, improve the level of interconnection, improve charging convenience and product reliability.

The third is to increase the promotion and application, the implementation of the promotion of public sector vehicle electrification action, to carry out a new round of new energy vehicles to the countryside activities, the introduction of more preferential policies on the use of links, to further stimulate private consumption.

The fourth is to optimize the industrial development environment, research and development of the automotive industry to implement the carbon peak, carbon-neutral action roadmap, strengthen project investment and production access management, resolutely curb the phenomenon of blind investment, promote the improvement of industrial concentration, strengthen quality and safety supervision, and effectively improve the safety level of new energy vehicles.
