Head & Shoulders Responds to Reports of Insect Eggs Found in Shampoo: Sent to Third-Party for Testing

Summary: A consumer in Huangshi, Hubei, reportedly found insect eggs in the Head & Shoulders shampoo purchased from Tmall. Head & Shoulders responded promptly, initiating third-party testing.

According to media reports, a disturbing discovery of insect eggs in a bottle of Head & Shoulders shampoo was made by a consumer in Huangshi, Hubei. Following these reports, Head & Shoulders confirmed on the 22nd that they contacted the concerned party within 24 hours of receiving the notice. They have arranged for a sample to be taken and sent for third-party expert testing, hoping to swiftly clarify the situation and address it appropriately.

As per the Xiaoxiang Morning News, on August 21st, the consumer reported that she purchased the shampoo from the official Procter & Gamble flagship store on Tmall during the “618” sales event. Surprisingly, she squeezed out what looked like insects when using the product. “The bottle was sealed in plastic wrap, and I only opened it on August 20th. These insects look like cockroach eggs,” she said.

Ms. Li stated that these creatures indeed looked like cockroach eggs. “It’s impossible that this happened during our storage. I bought it just two months ago, and the bottle had a clear plastic seal, so cockroaches couldn’t get in.” After the incident, Ms. Li reached out to the store’s customer service, providing personal information and the product batch number, but the issue remains unresolved. “These two bottles of shampoo were produced in March and May, respectively, so they are certainly not from the same batch.”

In response to Ms. Li’s report, Head & Shoulders commented on the 22nd: “We made contact with the concerned party within 24 hours of receiving the notice and, with the user’s consent, arranged for a sample to be sent for third-party expert testing. We’re very grateful for the cooperation and understanding from the user during our communications. We all hope to swiftly determine the cause and address the situation appropriately.”

Head & Shoulders further added that all their products undergo extensive safety checks and sterilization before leaving the factory. Their factory workshops, production equipment, and transportation operate under a completely sealed environment. Their quality and safety controls meet the standards of the China National Medical Products Administration, ensuring no foreign objects can enter.

Public information indicates that Head & Shoulders is a shampoo brand under the American company Procter & Gamble. The world’s first anti-dandruff shampoo containing an active ingredient to effectively remove dandruff was born in 1963. In 1991, Head & Shoulders entered the Chinese mainland market.
