China-made breast pumps may cause electric shock

Electric breast pumps of USA Gland, Philips, Combi, Medela and other brands have been found to have various problems during sampling inspections, according to the quality sampling inspection results of electric breast pumps sold in the Chinese market recently released by the Shanghai Market Supervision Bureau of China.

The sampling samples this time came from Chinese e-commerce channels and offline major supermarkets. After various index tests, a total of 12 batches of unqualified products were detected, involving USA Gland, Philips, Combi, Medela, NCVI, Matern’ella, Solord and Lansinoh. The substandard products came from e-commerce companies such as Suning.com, Gome, JD.com, and physical supermarkets such as Pacific Department Store.

The most problematic items include structure, labeling and identification. The “structure” item is an important quality indicator of electric breast pumps. In this issue, USA Gland electric breast pumps manufactured by Shenzhen Gland Electric Co., Ltd. and Lansinoh Bilateral Electric Breast Pump imported by Lansinoh Laboratories Shanghai (LLS) failed the inspection.

The Philips Avent unilateral electric breast pump manufactured by Philips (China) Investment Co., Ltd., and the NCVI intelligent electric breast pump manufactured by Wuxi Xinzhongrui Baby Products Co., Ltd. were found to be unqualified in respect of “labeling”.

Among the unqualified products, the most prominent problem is the ‘Solord’ electric breast pump manufactured by Cixi Zhibao Electric Co., Ltd. A total of 6 items were detected as unqualified for this product, including “marks and instructions, current leakage and electrical strength at working temperature, abnormal operation, structure, labeling”.

Breast pumps are used to suck out the breast milk that accumulates in the mammary glands. Postpartum mothers may encounter situations such as mother-to-child separation, infant inability to suck, and the mother’s physical condition is not suitable for breastfeeding. Therefore, breast pumps are a necessity for many expectant mothers.
