Power strip, also known as “Plug-in Board”, is a connection device for household appliances and power supplies, and it is a compulsory certification product in China. Although the power strips are inconspicuous, their safety is extremely important. Once the quality fails, it may pose a direct threat to consumer property and life safety.
The relevant survey data of the Ministry of Public Security of China shows that among the fire accidents that have occurred in China in the past 10 years, fires caused by short circuits of power sockets, switches, and circuit breakers accounted for nearly 30% of the total, ranking first among various fire causes.
The Beijing Market Supervision Bureau recently conducted quality supervision and random inspections on power strips made in China, and a total of 7 batches of unqualified power strips were detected, including branded products such as Haizhuwan, Delangge, Haiya, Hengdan, Jishun, and Qingfeng (Breeze). The sales units of qualified products include Yichu Lotus, Dazhong Electric, Happy Glory Supermarket and so on.
The 7 unqualified power strips had the same problem, and the “structure” was found to be unqualified.
Structural items are an important quality indicator for power strips. Unqualified structure means that there are hidden safety hazards in the design of the product itself, which is likely to cause accidents.
4 power strips were detected that the “heat resistance” items were not up to standard.
Heat resistance is an important safety performance index. The unqualified heat resistance mainly reflects the insufficient fire resistance of the power strips. Chinese national standards stipulate that plastic parts of high-quality products must have a certain resistance to heat deformation, that is, they should not be softened within a certain temperature range. If ordinary PC materials are selected, they will not only have no fire resistance but also have combustion-supporting properties.
Other problems detected include grounding measures, creepage distance, electrical clearance, and distance through the sealant. Among them, special power strips of “Haiya” sold in Qinghe Store of Happy Glory Supermarket have been found unqualified in 7 quality indicators.
