The Shenzhen Market Supervision Bureau recently announced 43 batches of unqualified toy products. A total of 120 batches of children’s toys were spot-checked this time. The samples were from Wal-Mart, China Resources Vanguard, RT-Mart, AEON and other physical stores and some manufacturing companies, and 43 batches of substandard products were found (40 batches in physical stores and 3 batches from Chinese manufacturers). The unqualified rate was 35.8%.
Among them, children’s floor mats are the most defective products, and a total of 14 batches of unqualified products were detected in this period.
For example, four batches of children’s crawling mats produced by Jiangsu Mingde Toys Co., Ltd. were found to be unqualified for “mechanical and physical properties, formamide” items. Companies such as Huizhou Jiahong Industrial Co., Ltd. and Guangdong Fulishi Industrial Co., Ltd. have also found that many batches of floor mats produced by them are unqualified.
Formamide is classified as a reproductive toxic substance, and the damage to children is irreversible. Studies on formamide have confirmed that formamide can be absorbed into the body through the respiratory tract, digestive tract, and skin and mucous membranes, and it can even induce leukemia in severe cases. In addition, when formamide encounters high temperatures, it will release ammonia. Excessive ammonia can cause damage to the eyes and skin and mucous membranes.
Children crawling, rolling, playing, etc. on the floor mats, not only the skin directly touches the floor mats, but also their snouts are very close to the floor mats. Especially young children may also lick and bite the mats. Therefore, the formamide exceeds the standard The health hazards of children’s mats cannot be ignored.
Other issues detected in children’s toys in this issue also include: plasticizers; total emissions of specific volatile organic compounds; migration of specific elements; toy identification.
For example, Burberry dolls produced by Shunsong Toys Co., Ltd. in Jieyang Airport Economic Zone, and velvet striped pigs produced by Yiwu Ronghua Toys Co., Ltd. were found to be unqualified as “plasticizers”. The LCD painted board produced by Shenzhen Xizhibao Industrial Co., Ltd. was found to be unqualified for “migration of specific elements”.
