Space7 apologizes for needle in sanitary napkin

Space7, a Chinese brand of female hygiene products, issued an apology late at night on June 6, expressing an urgent investigation into the “needle found in sanitary napkin” incident and will release the results as soon as the investigation is clear.

A woman in China’s Jiangxi province reportedly said she found a needle in her Space 7 sanitary napkin, which was about one-third the size of a normal needle.

Chinese Internet users, especially women who have bought Space7 branded products, went wild. A large number of Chinese netizens expressed their concern, saying that they need to find out how the needle was put in. “Was it stuck in from the outside or was it a problem in the production process?”

Space7, founded in 2002, is a Chinese female hygiene product brand owned by Fujian Hengan Group Co Ltd, according to public information. In April 2021, actor Liu Haocun was officially appointed as the spokesperson of Space7. Ju Jingyi was previously the spokesperson of Space7’s ‘China style’ products. Hengan Group, founded in 1985, is a Chinese manufacturer of household paper and maternal and child hygiene products, with total assets of 44.4 billion yuan, according to its website. Its Hong Kong stock listed name is “Hengan International”, with a total market value of HK$61.5 billion.

Previously, regarding the “needle gate” incident, Hengan Group customer service staff said, “this matter will be reported to the relevant departments, the group will further verify.” In addition, the reporter consulted Space7’s official flagship store on Taobao as a consumer, and the customer service staff said the matter is being verified, and the consumer in the news report bought sanitary napkins from an offline store and “not from our store.” In addition, the customer service of the flagship store of Space7, the high-end line product of Space7, also gave the same response, “the company is still investigating it.”

Late on Sunday night, Space7 made a public statement about the incident on its official microblog. Space7 said it was sorry for the inconvenience. After receiving the feedback from the consumer of its sanitary napkins, the company immediately established a special working group to conduct an urgent investigation of the incident and contacted the consumer to communicate about the specific situation and conduct an internal investigation. The investigation results will be released as soon as the investigation is clear.
